This just in from Colombia...

This seems to be so new that none of the English-language wires have it (yet).

From my superb Spanish-language Open-sources Researcher:

There's news in the Spanish-language press that the Colombian army wounded Alfonso Cano a couple of days ago and that they now have him and "Mono Jojoy" surrounded.

Noticias24 Story

Key Point: These would be two of the ever-shrinking number of big fish left in the FARC. Taking them down after all the other hammerblows that have fallen on the FARC may well turn things from piecemeal defeat into a rout.

A few minutes here before we take off--I just read this article-- close but not close enough- I just did a quick search and I am unable to find anything about this incident--
I did read Chavez stated yesterday 24 Russian Sukhol (?) fighter jets have been delivered to Venezuela--

"Chavez said the Sukhoi missiles have far greater range than those of the US F-16 fighter jet, and warned the US Fourth Fleet to keep out of Venezuelan waters."

I am looking for the stories on Operation Moises--

I have not been able to find any stories on Operation Moises but I am doing a quick search-- but to comment on the latest-- FARC is definitely disintegrating-- and losing their trophy hostages has not helped- I read "in some cases, the FARC has been reduced to using chits instead of cash to pay cultivators of the coca leaf, from which cocaine is made, a Colombian intelligence officer said."

@Susan

re: yours of 9:28 and 9:34

irrelevant, and in the later case also misleading.

re: Looking for Op. Moises reports

Now that is where you should be looking. "paying with chits"... makes you smile, doesn't it?

I have been all over looking for Op. Moises to no avail--

9:28 and 9:34-- I just stumbled on these--

paying with chits made me laugh--

be back later!

Even the paper out of Cali Colombia, El Pais, has no mention of this!!!!

I am still looking- LOL-- the only thing I found was Cano was hurt and escaped but then in the more recent article, the one you posted, he is surrounded-- so my guess is he has still not been captured and maybe the lack of news-- lots of news on Chavez---

now I really have to go! Late again-- oh dear-- My friend is probably fuming at his hotel! (grin)

Susan: The Colombian armed forces are usually tight-lipped about what they are doing. Only a little is published. That's probably why they have been so effective against the FARC.

Bits and pieces of the information in this report have been appearing over the past few days. What I find interesting is where it is now.

Marie--

trouble is brewing in Chavez land!
Venezuelan's protesting his "new" socialist move!!!!

http://www.abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=5530194

Riot police used tear gas Wednesday as they blocked hundreds of Venezuelans protesting what they call new moves by President Hugo Chavez to concentrate his power. The demonstrators said a blacklist barring key opposition candidates from elections and a series of socialist decrees are destroying what's left of their democracy.
