For example: US Naval Academy graduates are not, and for some time have not, been required to learn Celestial Navigation. Makes it tough to teach principles of survival navigation if you first have to teach the association of time-difference and latitude, for example...

I'd say it is shameful to see what the proud Democratic Party has become, but for there being *a bit* of the same shame to wave around on the Republican side.
Let's just leave it as 'the late Henry M. Jackson wouldn't give the time of day to this bunch of losers who call themselves Democrats these days'.
