Major reshuffle of Pakistan Army commanders

Read this as a follow-up to The Weekly N&C for this week:

Dawn (Pak) reports a major reshuffling of assignments in the highest echelon of the Army of Pakistan, including a change at the top for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Looks like the new management includes some serious "tigers". Bravo!

Heavy fighting in Bajaur region, tribals on both sides of the fight...

As reported by Reuters Alertnet

and then...

Two breaking stories, both from Dawn, related to matters in the NWFP/FATA and Afghanistan:

Report of new cross-border strike (UAV w/missile)

Reports of the death of B. Mehsud (natural causes?)

second source needed on these two, of course.

Serious and very reasonable doubts now out in public as to the death(?) of B. Mehsud.

Long War Journal is all over this

Well done as always to LWJ.

The Times of India-- October 2nd-

Taliban spokesmen denied the report of his death, or even that he was seriously ill. "I just spoke to a close aide of Baitullah Mehsud and he did not mention any such thing," said militant spokesman Muslim Khan, based in northwest Swat Valley. "It could be government propaganda," Khan said.

Seems like there are mixed reports about Mehsud's death-- My bet is he is alive. Dang it!

Meanwhile, Army Gen. David D. McKiernan is asking for more US troops in Afghanistan, I heard earlier on FOX- And he said- pronto!
