"Utgor" -er I mean Hugo the Venezualan Caveman is using harsh language, the missing word is "Shit" I believe. and Kicking ou Ambassador out of the country in 72 hours. This was jsut AFTEr two Sov-I mean Russian lng range Bombers parked there at The caveman's infitation.

He's apparently showing solidarity with Evil I mean Evo Morales, whodid the same.

I'm not sure Utgor is the right comparison for Chavez. As I recall, Utgor was a superb physical specimen with "limited" mental skills. Chavez is clearly not in that kind of shape, and he's clearly got enough smarts to play his own population and a lot of the international community pretty effectively.

re: Utgor...

I'll go with Will; Pretty much, that comparison is an insult to Utgor.

I'd have to actually look at the story again, but Utgor was extraordinarily strong and equally simplistic in his view.

H. Chavez is IMO just the sort of fellow he presents himself to be: the ultimate self-impressed gangster.

Oh, and...

Even Utgor knows to check this thread to comment on this topic.

What was really funny about this is that Duddy has already been in the U.S. for 4 days when he got kicked out. More blustering from Hugo. He has to hog to limelight no matter what and now that he has the Russians there, he's trying to flex his muscles. Not a good situation.

I see the US has decided to start a push and shove with Chávez- since three of his aides were slapped with sanctions.

Honduras is now delaying the credentials of a new US ambassador-Brazil is against Morales being overthrown- and on it goes-

Is Peru backing up Morales? Despite past conflicts with Hugo and Morales? I read- yes-

there is no end to Chávez's mendacity!

who is Utgor? I can't even find it on the internet?

McCain Sets 'Em Up, Knocks 'Em Down

Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 12:47:49 pm PDT

Maybe I’m cynical, but I can’t help suspecting that the Obama campaign was set up by John McCain’s self-deprecating statements about not “getting” the Internet. Here’s a Forbes article from 2000, and it’s clear that McCain is nowhere near as clueless as Obama would like to portray him: Forbes.com - Net Vs. Norm.

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.

If it was a setup, Obama fell right into the trap.

Maybe so. But the mainstream media, both the left- and right-leaning, both the television and print media are catching on to the distortions and lies coming out of the McCain campaign. While this one isn't as opprobrious or contumelious as some of the others, I doubt it'll be overlooked in the final accounting.

@Susan

"Utgor" is the archtypial Barbarian Warrior character from a short story by R. Higbee, published maybe 15 years ago...

...the chance of you recognizing that reference is somewhere between slim and nil.

@Marie and Mr. Bill

It is none to soon if any significant portion of the mainstream media were to own up that they have been regularly played by both campaigns.

A scroll down of FactCheck pretty much paints a fair picture.

The media self-delusion problem is out there as well, but less definable.

Marie said...

Bill, ditto go what LDG said. It isn't only the McCain camp that has done it. Be fair. And the mainstream media has been totally one sided, need a guess in favor of your candidate? The treatment has not been equitable at all! Shall we ask what coverage the Woods question has gotten in the MSM? Yet they all but barged into Palin's bedroom. Do you call that fair? I'm not asking for special treatment, but I am DEMANDING FAIR treatment. Want to know why McCain's numbers are up? Because I believe we Americans just normally side with the underdog or with the person we think is getting a raw deal. I may not agree with everything McCain / Palin want, but I certainly DEMAND fair and not one-sided treatment (and like me there are millions of others). Obama said "enough"; I say enough, too.

Marie said...

Sorry, that should be "ditto TO what ..." not "go"

Sorry to hog the thread LDG, but I looked at FactCheck and saw that they say that Obama did not vote for sex ed for kindergartners. Then following a lead I came across this web page, which tells a worrisome story, contrary to FactCheck:

http://amyproctor.squarespace.com/blog/2008/9/14/obama-did-vote-to-teach-sex-ed-and-much-more-to-kindergartne.html

sorry about the link, but in a rush.

@Marie

not a problem. this thread is for just such comments.

I'll give it a look, re: Amy Proctor's report. She is very good usually, so I would give her some credence. She may be ahead of FactCheck on this item for all I know.

/me .. recovers from splitting headache. Gets off ground.

I tend to avoid the politial threads unless I feel safe enough, but the Media (exemplified by the vile Olberman who I cannot watch) is definately in the tank for Obama.

Palin had made them unsteady and the media is agry at being blindsided by Palin, hence the nit comb checking in Alaska, without the requisite nit combing of Obama's Chicago and Ilinois record.

However for something completely different. As go the Japanese for Robots as labor saving devics, so go the Americans eventually, and figure out a way to make it dangerous.

The video is amazing. especialy when the Robot gets kicked, and slips on the ice.

The media has had eighteen months or so to vet Obama and a couple of weeks to vet Palin. Of course they're going to focus on her for a while, and it is going to seem ruthless and overwhelming. Concentrate everything the media has said, written, or shown of Obama's life over the last year-and-a-half and look at it all in the period of time since the RNC -- I think you'll find the media has produced quite a bit more on Obama than on Palin.

All of the media has had much more time to dig into Obama's record, too. It surprises me what all they've found on Palin in just a few weeks.

Mr. Bill said...

Two more things:

One is, I still haven't found, either here or anywhere, ten, good, compelling reasons to vote for McCain/Palin. Those reasons must be because of some real strength of the McCain/Palin ticket, and not because of some perceived weakness of any of the other candidates.

The second is, at no time have I advocated Obama as the shining angel of light that so many others see him as. My railing on the Republican ticket is more because of the Rovian tactics they're using -- this bully in the playground, cutting down your opponent rather than focusing on the issues and telling me what you can do for the electorate kind of campaigning. Also, after seeing the ABC interview with Governor Palin, I am more adamantly opposed to someone like that being a heart attack/stroke/bullet away from running my country. If you think it's a gender issue with me, you're mistaken. Senator Quayle scared the crap out of me for the same reason.

Marie said...

"his bully in the playground, cutting down your opponent" ?????

Marie said...

Which interview did you see, the edited or unedited version? I suggest you look up the unedited version, it's on the Web... and the interview has been criticized as being unfair EVEN BY THE MSM. I once again stress the word "FAIR".

Also, tell me, in all those months the media vetted the other candidates, when did they go into their personal lives and attack them so venomously?????

Mr. Bill said...

One of the tactics attributed to Karl Rove is to focus on the strengths of the opponent, distort the facts and emphasize aspects of those strengths that appear negative when taken out of context. This is also one of the tactics employed currently by the McCain campaign.

I recall being upset at examinations of both Senator Clinton's and Governor Romney's lives. They were, at the time, bobbing closer to the surface than the others. I'd suppose there are those in the blogosphere who've said quite a lot, too. I do recall quite a few overt suggestions that Senator Obama was muslim -- how much more personal can you get than attacking a person's faith? I guess you could go after a person's race... and there's that politician from Georgia, a sitting Representative, if I'm not mistaken, calling the Obamas "uppity". I think if you look closely, back eighteen months, you'll find plenty of examinations into politicians' personal lives that were less than pleasant. It's just that eighteen months ago, the field was a lot bigger, and most people weren't paying attention to all the players. Right now, Governor Palin is the one new-to-the-public-eye politician slotted for national office. Once again, of course the media is going to pay close attention and dig up anything that will garner more advertising dollars.

If one more person tells me I look like Sarah Palin, I am going to go ballistic!

I have had five, FIVE, yes, five, people tell me in the last three days I look like her- Because I wear glasses and I wear my hair up.

Last night, my daughter, Danielle, Ken, and I went to eat at a restaurant where I have been at least twenty times! The owner came up to me and said to me, "You look like Sarah Palin."

When I paid my bill on the way out, he said to me- Good night, Sarah!

I was at the doctor's office on Friday and two of the people there told me I looked like her.

I was at the grocery store and two more people told me I looked like her.

Reminder- I am 12 years older and my look became mine before hers!

I am going to scream if one more person tells me I look like her!

McCain and Palin-- well, this would be my choice since I don't have much more to pick from- Joe Biden does not know how to use tact and he is losing credibility as his mouth talks.

Palin is not what all she is- given if one checks out the facts-

Alaska has what? 700,000 population? Ranks as 47 in population? She has been to Canada and Mexico on vacation. And of course, overseas.

She has been a bit deceptive in her arguments- so what? Who has not been?

Her back to home speech in Alaska was great-- she must have reiterated many times the great state of Alaska. I wish McCain would do the same for Arizona!

Given what we have here, McCain and Palin, my sister, by looks, would have to be my choice- because there is not much pickings left!

I use factcheck-- given to me by Fox News-- I think this is a fair site.

I also have read the Anchorage newspapers- so, you read what you want to believe.

Personally, when the electoral votes are in and whomever wins, the truth or lies will surface.

At this point, I don't really care.

Focus--oversee what goes on overseas and figure out how to save moolah!

And Marie- I think Obama is not into introducing sex into the classrooms as a subject, given he has two daughters, and I do think he loves his daughters so I CAN'T imagine him using sex education as a lewd subject! Maybe to instill awareness so we don't have these Amber alerts which run rampant.

Actually, this campaign, from both sides is turning into a nonsensiscal campaign- of triffling importance- impudent! To say the least!

Hopefully, with the debates, the issues will be on course!

Susan: check Amy Proctor's blog for the curriculum for sex ed... including kindergartners, then decide.

Bill: a person's integrity, intelligence and faith, personal decisions, etc., etc., I'm sure more can be added. Yes, the thing about Obama being a Muslim was stupid, and Romney's religion was also idiotic, but the ad hominem attacks against Palin have been over the top vicious!!

Yes Susan, just about all politicians exaggerate, but the seriousness of the exaggeration is what should be examined here and then a comparison should be made.

I still am aghast at the visceral response and hatred spewing from the MSM. After many allegations have been shot down, the MSM continues to plug them. That's what I mean about FAIRNESS.

Now I bid all farewell as duty calls.
