OFAC lists more elements of Bank Melli

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has designated 11 more companies held by Iran's Bank Melli under E.O. 13382 (against Proliferators of Weapons of Mass Destruction). UNSC Resolution 1803 was also cited in the designation.

It remains to be seen whether the current American administration has the continuing will to sanction Iran for its pursuit of nuclear weapons, but for now it appears that at least the extant legal justification is sufficient to take action this time.

Obfuscator-in-Chief Robert Gibbs, White House Spokesman, offered a more pointless and confused nuanced statement on the overall situation regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions.

You shouldn't have crossed out those words about Gibbs as they were eminently appropriate. Do you really expect straight talk from the children? I wonder if anyone will remember how Bush was savaged for even thinking that Iran's nuclear program had purposes other than "peaceful"? I wonder too if anyone would admit he was right? Doubt it very much.

Oh, I know. I just haven't worked up enough personal venom to treat Mr. Gibbs' role as anything more than that of a tool.

Speaking of the NIE on Iran that was the primary political hammer used to beat the Bush 43 administration over the head about Iran...

There is no doubt that the actual text of that NIE did recognize the impending peril; it was in the summary forms released / leaked / fabricated by certain media outlets that pushed the "peaceful" and "no longer weaponizing" frauds.

The open question now is "Will the next NIE/Iran be allowed to be used the same way?" ...

...or worse.
