No one leaves.

The split is on, and the big man does not exactly approve.

"We must also remind the dissidents that history has been extremely unkind to those who break away from the ANC." -- Jacob Zuma, 14. Oct, 2008

Expect the Youth League to be sharpening their pangas as we speak.

Now there is Zuma in the picture!!

I copied the same quote you used from Zuma's mouth to paste here to say- this sounds like a threat and-- lo behold-- it was that quote I had clicked on to read the article-- slow down, Susan--

and your quick wit stood out again-- sharpening the pangas-- (laughing)

Thanks for my new word-- a machete was the only one I knew--

I see as I am reading off the internet in September this year, a judge decided not to prosecute Zuma for racketeering, money-laundering, corruption and fraud relating to controversial arms deals. (due to procedural mistake)

@Susan

(You'll probably laugh, but when I was a young child I didn't know what a machete was. I thought Panga was the usual name for a heavy forage blade.)

That is correct about the investigation, and you might be interested in noting the Special Police detachment that investigated high-level fraud got disbanded as well.

@Max

(Welcome back from you travels!)

It seems that is the way it has been going. Heartbreaking, because it didn't have to be that way.

@Patty

Heh, I think J. Zuma had the name first.

(hiya back! Glad to see you here as well!)

I saw plenty of machetes in my childhood-- I equated them with sugar cane-- not for a bloody bath!

And yes, I did notice!

semi-OT re: machetes

Heh, that's one use they are intended for. We always thought of them as necessary tools for getting through "wait-a-minute bush" and other heavy undergrowth.

On the other hand, a brief look in the encyclopedia at "Mau-Mau" provides an example of the unfortunate alternative use.

LDG..i think you are correct (with zuma) ;-)

semi OT also, but in line with previous comments.... always a learning experience here...a machete or a panga...i only knew them as a "corn knife".
All depends on which part of the world we grew up in.

On topic--

is there a congress on November 2?

@Patty

Now you've got me curious. As my 'mum wanders in to look at this blog from time to time, I'll have to ask her what the Texas-Kansas branch of the family calls them.

back on-topic indeed
@Susan

The dissident faction is calling for a meeting (congress) to organize formal opposition on 2. November, yes.
