When one is out at the dirt end of a logistics tail, what one gets to eat takes on a whole new importance. The horror stories about military rations are told no matter what army one is speaking of, and the comparisons between forces (and branches of service) as to who gets the "best" food are a staple of many a soldier's conversation.
