The zone is now gone, but for a few marks on the ground like old watchtowers, but the memory lives on:

Michaela and her parents also ask themselves why, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, no one has been punished for making them spend the better part of their lives behind fences.

There have been a couple of good posts on the Volokh Conspiracy on the lack of attention to the crimes of communism. They can be found here.
VC is a blog by law professors with a strong libertarian bent. They focus on legal issues, but will comment on geopolitics from time to time.
Excellent find there, Will. I'm a big VC fan, but don't get over there as much as I probably should.
