I read your article--

Pirates by sea...now on land.

I was listening earlier to the news about the seized Ukraine ship-
(Faina)

October 1st- Los Angeles Times-

A U.S. destroyer and other ships have surrounded the hijacked boat and a Russian frigate is en route, raising fears that a confrontation may be imminent.

Omar, the spokesman, states if there the Russians attempt to storm the boat, they will destroy the ship's cargo and all of them are willing to die!

NAIROBI, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Talks aimed at freeing the seized Ukrainian cargo ship carrying tanks and other arms have kicked off as warships from the United States and other navies have barricaded the MV Faina off the coastal region of Somalia.

Andrew Mwangura, coordinator of the East Africa's Seafarers Assistance Program, said on Wednesday the negotiations started between the ship owners and the pirates in a bid to free the military hardware whose ownership remains unknown.

"Telephone contacts have started between the Somali pirates and the ship owners. As things stand, it seems the talks may take long since the ransom demand is too high," Mwangura told Xinhua by telephone

@Susan

If interest drives you back to the Somalia stand-off, I would seriously encourage reading everything Eagle1 posts under his "Somali Piracy" thread label. He is *the* leading source for info on that right now.
